Reinventing the Selfie
The future of social media for everyone
In a world that is full of selfies either online, being taken outdoors or on personal devices, it seems we are obsessed with our own image. There are multiple different effects that can be used to add improvements or distraction to our selfies as we attempt to stand out from those around us as we seek immortality with as many followers as possible. But it is about time the standard selfie is brought in to the current reality. Not an easy task. But alas, I have managed to do this with the invention of the reverse selfie.
Now, just for the sake of clarity, I am not simply suggesting that you reverse your image with mirrors. This is absolute piffle. My new invention is a game changer and one that is set to become a popular new ‘thing’ online.
How are they done?
To get technical for a minute, the following instructions, if followed properly, will result in terrific reverse selfies that can be kept for personal use or posted online. The steps are as follows;
- Make sure your device is turned on. I have found through significant testing that the device being switched off reduces the quality of the image.
- Open the camera on your device. Once again, this has been tested using many other apps and the results have been substandard
- Hold the device up at eye level with the front of the device facing you. This has been the side to use for the best results.
- Make sure the image you are seeing on the screen is that of the view you are looking at towards the horizon. Of course, if there are obstacles between you and the horizon, then this is OK.
- Press the picture capture button. Not pressing the button has delivered substandard pictures.
- Go to pictures and admire your new reverse selfie. It should resemble something like the reverse selfie below.
As is very clear to see, this reverse selfie is of a very high quality and sure to be used. Possibly as someone’s profile picture or to send to friends to show them in spectacular locations.
Reverse selfies and how they help people in real life
Since developing this fantastic new tool for people, I have feedback from multiple people thanking me for helping them improve their confidence and letting the world see them. A recent email from Brenda Livingstone of Connecticut, aged 84, said;
You have given me the freedom to now share my world with me in it to my family and friends. I am no longer worried about the world seeing my wrinkles and bad hair days as I post all of my reverse selfies.
Another email from Fred Dumbley of Kent, aged 19, was also very pleasing to read. As well as the quote below, Fred also included a terrific reverse selfie;
There are lots of pressures on us teenagers these days to fit in to the right group. Your reverse selfie technique has made me realize I am OK and my image should be seen by all.
These are just two of the many emails I have received. They all share the same thing in common though, a new feeling of self confidence and freedom.
The future
Like all new trends, I am sure the enhancement apps will soon becoming thick and fast. Clever entrepreneurs are always looking to cash in on trends and as the reverse selfie starts to gain traction, it will no doubt be a gold mine for those that see the endless opportunities.
As a part time Instagram user, I am already noticing the increase in reverse selfies as people are starting to use the #reverseselfie on their images. This is terrific to see and although I don’t see my self as a trendsetter, the title sits comfortably with me.
I urge all those reading this to take up the challenge and breakaway from the status quo of the ‘old’ selfie. Keep your life fresh. I will be keeping an eye out for the growth of reverse selfies and allow myself a little smile and nod of acceptance.
